Schweinehund is a live puppetry and animation piece inspired by the life of Nazi concentration camp survivor, Pierre Seel. An international collaboration between New York based puppeteer and actor Andy Gaukel and Puppeteer Myriame Larose from Montreal,  Schweinehund employs several styles of puppetry integrated with projected stop-motion animation to create a choreographed movement piece set to music. Schweinehund weaves snapshots of a brutal past with memories of yesteryears into a moving story of love, loss and the resilience of the human spirit.

This event is free, but ticketed. Tickets are GENERAL ADMISSION, but can be reserved in advance by emailing: westfultonarts@gmail.com

Andy Gaukel has worked has worked in television, Off-Broadway and in regional theatre. Performance highlights include Basil Twist’s Symphonie Fantastique, the world premier of Paula Vogel’s The Long Christmas Ride Home, and numerous credits at Tron Theatre, Scotland; Center for Puppetry Arts, Atlanta; National Puppetry Puppetry Festival, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Trinity Repertory Company. Gaukel's original work Schweinehund premiered at the 2015 Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes in Charleville-Mézières, France and has toured throughout Europe including the 2016 Internationales Figurentheaterfestival Blickwechsel in Germany. Schweinehund received its North American premiere at Casteliers in Montreal and in May will be presented as part of the BIAM (Biennale internationale des arts de la marionnette) in Paris. Gaukel held a Creation Residency at the Institut International de la Marionnette in Charleville-Mézières, France and holds an M.F.A from Trinity Rep. Conservatory, Providence.

Myriame Larose is part of the first cohort to graduate with a Diploma in Contemporary Puppet Theatre from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 2009. She presented Burials, her first solo production, at the Festival Casteliers in Montréal and joined the team of Théâtre de l'Oeil for their 24th show, 3-Legged Tale. She joined the cast of the legendary show The Star Keeper (Théâtre de l'Oeil) in 2011. She is also a performer with the shows Petits Pains Oubliés presented by Les Sages Fous and Créatures compagnie and Outside Me, a show she has co-created with Noë Cropsal. She joined Schweinehund in Charleville-Mézières in April 2013 for an exploration residency and continued working on this project with Andy Gaukel.

Little Chucky heads to the Wild West to outwit outlaws in this cowboy adventure!  With a fistful of bananas, Chucky rides into town on his trusty goat for a showdown with Big Bad Bart and his gang of bandits.

The Legend of the Banana Kid features 20 of our hand-crafted glove, mouth and rod puppets, and a slew of flying and twirling styrofoam bananas.

CREATIVE TEAM

Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers is a puppetry troupe based in Bar Harbor, Maine, and comprised of three siblings - brothers Erik and Brian Torbeck and sister Robin (Torbeck) Erlandsen.  Founded in 2000, Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers has performed at festivals, schools, libraries and theatres in the United States and Canada.   They write and create all the shows they perform and have received three Citations of Excellence from UNIMA-USA, the highest national award in puppetry.

Laurie McIntosh (aka Story Laurie) is a storyteller, songwriter and singer—an enchanting entertainer who transports listeners of all ages to lands near and far with her delightful renditions of folk tales and vibrantly entertaining, socially conscious songs for kids and families. Since making her home in the Catskill Mountains over fifteen years ago, Laurie has performed for audiences of all ages at schools, libraries, festivals and historical societies.

Sean Fagan is the Artistic Director of Circus Theatricks—an organization that introduces young people of all ages to circus, theatre, and the visual arts in school programs, summer camps, after-school enrichment settings, and private coaching. When not teaching, he keeps a full schedule as a variety arts performer, working on stage, television, and the occasional feature film. A former Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus clown, Sean’s “theatricks” include a wide range of ground skills proficiency, including juggling, slapstick, pratfalls, stilt-walking, unicycle, rolling globe, rola-bola, tumbling, partner acrobatics, magic and more!

Come join us on an ocean puppet adventure with puppeteer Morgan Kelly. This unique puppet show explores the coastal ecosystems through the eyes of a child.  Following the 20 minute show, there will be a turtle puppet making workshop! 

Morgan Kelly is a puppet/teaching artist based in St. Augustine, FL. Her background is in Educational Theatre and Puppetry. She has toured nationally and internationally performing original puppet theatre work. She received her BA in Theatre from Marlboro College and an MA in Educational Theatre from New York University.

 I Laid an Egg is an original piece inspired by Margot’s childhood dream. Margot goes on an adventure with her imaginary friend, Egg, in an imaginary world made of shadows and household items. A show filled with many unexpected surprises and discoveries, I Laid an Egg bears elements of Shadow Theater, Object Theater, and music, inviting the audience into a child’s realm of make-believe.

Double Image Theater Lab is based in New York City and was founded by Spica Wobbe and Margot Fitzsimmons in 2011.  They create cross-cultural productions that span across many art forms, such as: poetry, multimedia, music, dance and puppetry.

Spica Wobbe is a puppetry artist originally from Taiwan. She has worked and studied with master puppeteers Albrecht Roser (Germany), Damiet van Dalsum (Holland), Suratno S. Kar (Indonesia), Peter Schumann (U.S.), and Agnès Limbos (Belgium). Her work has been seen in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Holland, Germany, Israel, and Austria. Now based in NYC, she works as a puppetry artist and teaching artist since she received her M.A. in Educational Theater from New York University in 2003.

Margot Fitzsimmons is a puppetry artist in NYC.  Her work has been seen in Holland, Israel, Taiwan and Austria.  She has studied with master puppeteers Ralph Lee, Landis Smith (U.S.), Diego Guzman (Spain) and Norbert Goetz (Germany).   She works as a teaching artist for The New Victory Theatre, American Place Theatre, and Acting Manitou Theatre Camp where she serves as a puppet choreographer, teaching artist, producer and builder for their summer shows.  Margot has taught various subjects using active learning methods. Some of her favorite locations have been Virginia working with migrant workers and their families and Uganda where she worked with Invisible Children Teacher Exchange working with youth and teachers.   She is a collaborating artist with A Space Between Theater, Trusty Sidekick and Spellbound Theatre.  She received a B.A. in Theater and Spanish (Dickinson College, 2004) and M.A. in Educational Theater in Colleges and Communities (NYU, 2007).

Liz Parker is a passionate performer and teaching artist, Liz uses theatre and puppetry to connect with audiences in New York City and beyond. Liz co-creates and performs shows for young audiences with the Urban Stages Outreach Department. Her work has been seen at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York International Fringe Festival and many schools and libraries in the five boroughs. Liz is an experienced actor, currently touring nationally with Young Audiences New York's one-woman stage adaptation of Lois Lowry’s ‘The Giver’. She was also featured recently in TIME Magazine for Kids in the role of Alice from 'Alice's Story', an interactive play about bullying. She has also directed student and community groups of all ages in the creation of new plays. Liz holds a BA in theatre from New York University and an MA in Applied Theatre from the CUNY School of Professional Studies.

This event is FREE, but all puppetry performances are ticketed. You can pick them up day-of for all shows at West Fulton Park

Tiny Arts Day in a Tiny Town

Big Acts Come to West Fulton for Tiny Arts Day in a Tiny Town!

Panther Creek Arts is hosting a mini festival featuring live music by Jonatha Brookes, storytelling by Charlotte Blake Alston, Seano Fagan Circus Theatricks, art gallery openings, local food, craft beverages, and more! Festivities kick off at 3 p.m.

PLUS Little Free Libraries Ribbon-cutting ceremonies will take place at at each of the following locations:

o 10 a.m. - Breakabeen Grange Hall

o 12 noon - Max V. Shaul Park

o 2 p.m. - West Fulton Park

Each small wooden library will stock a range of books from children's classics to adult fiction and bear the same simple message: "Take a book. Leave a book."

Little Free Libraries is a nonprofit organization that aims to that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges.
